Proof check — is the edge real yet?
Graded on real PrizePicks lines only. "Proven" means the low end of the likely hit rate (95% confidence) clears that entry's break-even, not just the raw record. Aim for 100+ graded plays per tier. Break-evens are approximate; payouts change.
Recent results
Every published play, graded against official match stats. Voids (player didn't start, as PrizePicks rules) are shown but not counted.

Hit rate by edge size
Out-of-sample starts. Line = the player's 10-start average (a stand-in for a season-average-priced market). Pythia bets the side it prefers.
Calibration
When Pythia says 65%, does it hit 65%? Dots on the diagonal = honest probabilities.
Accuracy vs the "season-average" baseline
Mean absolute error in passes attempted, starters only, out of sample. Lower is better.

How Pythia works
Passing volume is mostly a team-level fact. Prop lines are mostly priced from player-level history. Pythia prices the gap.
Team form
For every team, across every competition, an exponentially weighted read of passes made, passes conceded, possession, field tilt (share of opposition-half passes) and a PPDA proxy (opponent passes per defensive action). Recent matches count most.
Matchup → team passes & possession
A log-linear model projects how many passes each side attempts in this fixture: my volume, what the opponent concedes, the opponent's own volume, what I concede, and home advantage. The two projections give expected possession.
Player share — and how the matchup shifts it
Each player's share of his team's passes per 90, shrunk toward his position's typical share when the sample is small. The share then moves with the matchup, learned from past matches by position: centre-backs take a bigger slice when their team dominates the ball, keepers when the opponent presses high, forwards a smaller one in high-volume games.
Projection
team passes × player share × expected minutes ÷ 90Probability & edge
P(More) comes from the real distribution of actual ÷ projected passes in past starts — so early subs, red cards and blowouts are priced in, not assumed away. Edge = projection vs line.
Data & honesty notes
- Match and player stats: FotMob match centre (player records carry Opta IDs). FBref is behind bot protection and Opta's feed is a paid commercial licence, so neither is used directly.
- Lines: every line on the site is a real PrizePicks line, read from the board. Plays are graded at the line they were posted at.
- Every backtest number uses only data from before each match. Model coefficients are fit on matches before the training cut-off only.
